TO HER THIS IS DEDICATED, AS EVER
For this melody 荷花香 I wrote the lyrics as shown in the video, as a dedication to my beloved friend of many years ago.
I hope she will have a chance to know.
Please note the English name of 荷花 is lotus, which has big flowers — up to 11 or 12 inches in diameter —
and leaves rising up to a few feet above water. Waterlilies are 睡蓮 — made world-famous by the French impressionist master painter Claude Monet —
with flowers mostly just floating on water.
Lotus and waterlily are not interchangeable.
I have visited the lotus garden in Toshodaiji 唐招提寺 and the lotus pond in Horyuji 法隆寺 in Japan.
Shinobazu-no-ike 不忍池 in Tokyo also has lots of lotus blossoms in summer.
This June 2010 I also had the opportunity to see Chinese lotus in Yuan Ming Yuan 圓明園, Beijing. They have not started blooming yet.
