The wood pagoda in Horyuji monastery 法隆寺 in Japan is a national treasure. It was built in the 7th or 8th century based on Chinese and also Korean models.* In China, however, this style of wood pagoda no longer exists, as Chinese pagoda changed to brick structures instead of wood.

Fortunately, Hong Kong rejuvenated this wood style in the Chi Lin Nunnery which is modeled on monasteries of the Tang dynasty or earlier. The wood pagoda in Chi Lin Nunnery closely resembles the wood pagoda in Japan, with deep and wide eaves extending from each storey This style — deep eaves (出簷深遠) — gives a feel of elegance not found in brick pagoda.

A good example of the deep-eaves style of wood architecture may be Nanchan Monastery (南禪寺) in Shanxi Province.

The song was converted into digital from a cassette tape played on a cheap Walkman. The sound quality is not as clear as to be expected.
